Sermon scripture: Philippians 2:1-11

Unity: (vs. 1-4)
The fact that we are all in Christ should keep us in unity.

The power of Christian love should keep us in unity.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35

The fact that they share in the Holy Spirit should keep Christians from disunity.

The existence of human compassion should keep us from disunity.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2

There can be no happiness for him so long as he knows that there is disunity in the Church that is dear to him.

Unity Comes in Being Like Jesus: (vs. 5-11)
Christ is the supreme example (v.5).

Christ is of the very nature of God (v.6)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.
John 1:1

Christ emptied Himself and became a man (v.7)

Christ humbled Himself to the point of utter humiliation—to the very point of death (v.8)
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
John 10:18

Christ was rewarded—highly exalted by God (v.9-11)
In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,  to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Revelation 5:12
