Who We Are

Our Message, Model, Roots, History, and Facilities.

Our Message

Our Message

To know God and make Him known.

As a community of believers, we hold to the inspired teachings of God as found in the Bible. We believe in God, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As a part of the Church, we strive to uplift and encourage believers, take the Good News to unbelievers in word and action, and fulfill the Great Commission.

Our Model

In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.

Tyner UMC is more than just a gathering of believers. We are a family of God's sons and daughters, learning together, laughing together, struggling together. Our model for ministry can be simplified to a single word: unity. First, we seek unity with God: to be in relationship with our Creator. From that, our unity with one another equips us to minister to others.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Lead, Disciple, Serve.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commanded us, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The Great Commission has influenced Tyner to view ourselves as a church saved by God's Grace, inspired by the Holy Spirit to Lead, Disciple, and Serve, so that people walk with Jesus Christ.

This is a place where you can come and worship to truly experience the warmth and love that exists in the family of God.

Our Roots

Over 175 years of history...

Tyner United Methodist Church boasts a long and rich history. The church can trace its history all the way back to 1844. In the more than 175 years since, Tyner has gone through countless name, facility, and staff changes. However, our dedication to the Lord remains steadfast. To learn more about Tyner's full story, visit the Lila K. Johnson Heritage Center in the church.

Our Facilities

Our Facilities

A space for everyone.

Tyner is blessed to have the facilities we have today. In addition to our beautiful traditional sanctuary and the modern worship space of Wesley Hall, we have a full gym, spaces designated solely for children and youth, a large kitchen, a preschool, and an abundance of multi-purpose classrooms.
